«I am extremely grateful to the Likhachev Foundation for this opportunity, I was free to do research in the libraries and archives and meet the people I needed to interview for my book. It is a great idea to invite European participants together with American participants, because this adds another dimension to the whole program: apart from exploring St. Petersburg and making contacts here, you can also lay bridges between Europe and the U.S. Thanks to the Fellowship  I have new friends and colleagues across the ocean. We, the fellows, will certainly go ahead with our individual Russian projects, but now we can also conduct American-European projects dedicated to Russia».
