Michael Kahn

Michael Kahn has led the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. for 25 seasons as Artistic Director, creating what The Wall Street Journal calls “...the nation’s foremost Shakespeare company.” The Shakespeare Theatre Company recently won the Tony Award for Best Regional Theatre. He is also the founder of the Academy for Classical Acting at The George Washington University and the former Richard Rodgers Director of the Drama Division at Juilliard.  In 2007 Kahn led the Shakespeare Theatre Company into a new era with the opening of the Harman Center for the Arts.

"My visit to St. Petersburg, courtesy of the Likhachev Foundation, was extraordinarily helpful in furthering the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s plan to present a partial Russian season in the next several years. Through the foundation’s efforts I was able to meet with a series of major directors working in the city and to see the work of prominent and young directors in production. This is just the beginning of our creating such a season and I have to commend the foundation for their superb organization of our time and the pleasure I had in joining colleagues on this trip".
