Gail Humphries Mardirosian

Dr. Gail Humphries Mardirosian is an arts administrator, professor, and director focusing on the arts in the international arena. She is currently a professor at American University in Washington, DC, teaching in the Department of Performing Arts, the University College and the University Honors Program.

Her research in St. Petersburg focused on Russian cabarets, from the early 1900’s through the late 1920’s. The research will be articulated in performances in Washington, DC during fall 2014 as part of the Initiative for Russian Culture’s DAYS OF ST. PETERSBURG. This creative project expands the on-going Project ARTS (American Russian Theatre Symposia) which, since 2004, has involved 7 cultural exchanges and has enriched over 10,000 audience members and artists through performances, workshops and master classes in the United States and in Russia. The project supported by the Likhachev Foundation will afford the sharing of a fascinating dimension of the artistic heritage of Russian culture for American audiences as university students and community members of the greater Washington metropolitan area will be exposed to the legacy of Russian cabarets.
