About program Participants Fellows in St.Petersburg Partners Contact

Michael Earley

Professor of Drama, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in Sidcup. The fellowship is related to creation of a unique International Directors Laboratory that will operate in summers from 2016 in London and Edinburgh. This initial three-year laboratory (2016-2018) will explore the techniques of contemporary Russian directors and draw on some of these directors to work alongside UK directors as a ‘faculty’ to mentor new and emerging young directors from around the world.

“The Likhachev Foundation fellowship provided me the opportunity to attend the first May Showcase of St. Petersburg Theatre and to make research and professional connections with the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy and the New Stage at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. At the Theatre Academy I observed training classes and met a number of teachers and administrators. The New Stage is one of the most modern theatre buildings in the world. A further visit was made to the Maly Theatre.

The fellowship is a unique way of bridging cultures and making new cultural connections and associations. In a concentrated time I was able to form a wide range of new contacts and associations that can now be pursued in separate ways. What a tremendous experience it has been”.
