The Likhachev Foundation provided me with the unique opportunity to meet, one on one, with a very select group of St. Petersburg composers/musicians, arts presenters, performance venues and organizers. This special kind of access made it possible for me to gain a fairly comprehensive sense of what the new music community in St. Petersburg is about and inspired me to think of ways to expand beyond my initial goal to both share what is being done there with US audiences/artists and, also, to bring some of what we are doing here in the US, that is different, to St. Petersburg.

It was a true joy to interact with the other Fellows during my stay. The atmosphere of intellectual inquiry, understanding and common interest in the wide array of research that was being done by all of us was enriching and stimulating. I feel that I have done more than increase my professional reach through these associations; I feel that I have made meaningful friendships that will last my lifetime. Here we are, less than two weeks after the Fellowship, and I have already met with one of the Fellows in NY and have plans to meet yet another here in Washington in a few weeks. This, to me, is extraordinary and a true testament to the many wonderful benefits of being a Likhachev Fellow.

The Foundation is comprised of a terrific team, the hotel accommodation provided the perfect base from which to embark every day. The Likhachev Fellowship Grant far exceeded what I imagined to be possible in so short a time and I feel extremely honored to now be a part of this wonderful legacy.
